“you should date an Aussie to get a visa” 😂😒

My face when they say “you should date an Aussie to get a visa”
I know it’s a bit of a taboo topic still but I have people telling me this almost EVERY WEEK. And it needs to stop.

1. a woman can get her own visa, even if it’s more complicated and expensive
2. how reductive it is for Aussies to be “worth dating” because of their nationality
3. how does it reflect on genuine international couples and relationships?

In the last 4-5 years I’ve heard my share of dodgy fake relationships stories for visa purposes. It’s a real thing and I don’t pretend to understand what is going on in people’s mind when doing it.
But please let’s stop telling girls who they should date or not. Let’s encourage each other to reach our goals by ourselves. Let’s teach girls they can get whatever they want.

A boyfriend (Aussie or not) is the cherry on top of the cake – not the cake, not the goal.
